Africanos e Afrodescendentes no Cinema Português Contemporâneo: Imigrantes, Cidadãos, Humanos

Abstract

RESUMO: O presente ensaio oferece uma panorâmica crítica de longas-metragens e documentários ligados às experiências de africanos e afrodescendentes no Portugal contemporâneo, visando investigar como a dita produção cultural reflete uma nação portuguesa em plena mutação, onde as fronteiras entre o Portugal pós-colonial e as ex-colónias africanas, tal como as noções acerca do que é “ser africano” ou “ser europeu,” estão a ser redefinidas. As longa-metragens e documentários que serão objeto de reflexão neste ensaio apresentam uma diversidade de abordagens estéticas e estruturas narrativas, mas, ao mesmo tempo, uma convergência ética visando trazer sujeitos afrodescendentes para o centro da representação e para o âmbito duma cidadania social e cultural.

ABSTRACT: This essay offers a critical overview of feature films and documentaries related to the experiences of Africans and Afro-descendants in contemporary Portugal, aiming to investigate how this form of cultural production reflects a Portuguese nation in full mutation, where the borders between post-colonial Portugal and the former African colonies, as well as the notions about what is “being African” or “being European,” are being redefined. The feature films and documentaries that will be the object of reflection in this essay present a diversity of aesthetic approaches and narrative structures, but, at the same time, an ethical convergence aiming to bring Afro-descendent subjects to the center of representation and to the sphere of a social and cultural citizenship.
